Sending a Referral

Generate a referral letter from a consultation note and send it to the receiving clinician or facility.

What this is for

Creating a structured referral letter based on the consultation note and sending it to a specialist, hospital, or other healthcare provider.

Who can do this

Clinicians with an approved note on the patient's record.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the patient's record from the Patients Screen.
  2. Locate the approved note for the consultation requiring a referral.
  3. Select Generate DocumentReferral Letter.
  4. Review the generated referral letter — it will include the patient's demographics, relevant history, diagnosis and reason for referral.
  5. Edit the content as needed and enter the recipient details:
    • Recipient name and designation
    • Facility or practice name
    • Email address or fax number
  6. Select Send or Download.
  7. Confirm.

Note

The referral letter is stored in the patient's documents history, linked to the originating consultation note.

Common issues

Referral content is missing key clinical detail

Referral letters are generated from the approved note. If important detail was not captured, edit the approved note before generating the referral. Note that editing a locked note requires it to be unlocked — contact your practice manager if needed.
